چکیده

Introduction The development of methods to synchronize estrus in beef cattle has been refined to a point that is feasible as well as reasonable to obtain pregnancy rates in mixed populations of cycling and anestrous cows that exceed 50% to a single fixed-time artificial insemination, provided a progestin based estrus synchronization protocol is used (Lamb et al., 2001; Kojima et al., 2002; Perry et al., 2002; Kojima et al., 2003a, 2003b; Bremer et al., 2004; Stegner et al., 2004; Bader et al., 2005; Schafer et al., 2005; and Larson et al., 2006). However, despite this level of success, recent surveys indicate that fewer than 10% of beef cows in the U.S. are bred artificially. Perhaps part of the reason for the low adoption rate of these technologies is due to the fact that there is little if any documented evidence of the economic value that is added as a result of this change in breeding management. Furthermore, to the knowledge of the authors there has been no published data regarding the differences in value that may be attained over time from both terminal groups of animals and replacement females, sired by bulls: 1) in a natural service setting; 2) the result of AI to older sires with predictable expected progeny differences; or 3) younger AI sires with limited data available to support their expected progeny differences. Therefore, the objective of this experiment was to determine the economic impact of using proven genetics in an AI program. Terminology & Abbreviations AI – Artificial Insemination EPD – Expected Progeny Difference High Accuracy Sires (HAS) – AI Sires with accuracies 0.85 for BW, WW, and YW EPDs at the time of synchronization and AI Low Accuracy Sires (LAS) – AI Sires with accuracies < 0.85 for BW, WW, and YW EPDs at the time of synchronization and AI Calving Ease Sires (CES) – AI Sires with high accuracies that were bred exclusively to virgin heifers NS – Natural Service used after one round of fixed-time AI

Using PCR-PIRA based genotyping for identifying complex vertebral malformation allele in Frieswal young bulls in India

Complex vertebral malformation (CVM) has considerable economic impact on dairy cattle breeding due to extensive use of artificial insemination (AI). Identifying the carrier is an important factor to reduce the incidence of the genetic disorder. The study was conducted to identify the carriers of CVM in Frieswal cattle by polymerase chain reaction-primer-introduced restriction analysis (PCR-PIRA...

Artificial intelligence & genetics

Artificial intelligence (AI) is the development of computer systems that are able to perform tasks that normally require human intelligence. Artificial intelligence (AI) is a wide-ranging tool that enables people to rethink how we integrate information, analyze data, and use the resulting insights to improve decision making—and already it is transforming every walk of life. AI has application...

Effect of Using Reproductive Technologies on Genetic Progress in Sistani Native Cattle of Iran: A Simulation Study

The effect of artificial insemination (AI), embryo transfer (ET) to bull dams (BD), and sexed semen (SS) to cow dams (CD) with and without controlling inbreeding were studied using stochastic simulation. Three levels of embryo transfer (no ET, ET on all BD, and ET on 20% of BD), five levels of sexed semen (no SS: control, SS-X on all CD, SS-X on 20% CD, SS-Y on all CD, and SS-Y on 20% CD), thre...

Effect of Flushed Feeding and Age on Estrus Synchronization and Conception Rate of Holstein × Local Crossbred Cows After Using Analogue GnRH and Prostaglandin F2α Hormone

The study was conducted to know the effect of flushed feeding on estrus synchronization and conception rate of Holstein ÍLocal crossbred cow’s after using the GnRH (fertagyl) and PGF2α hormone. As a representative sample 20 Holstein ÍLocal crossbred cows were chosen from Chittagong Cantonment Military Dairy Farm in Bangladesh and the experimental work was carried out for 60 days. Ten cows were ...

Network Planning Using Iterative Improvement Methods and Heuristic Techniques

The problem of minimum-cost expansion of power transmission network is formulated as a genetic algorithm with the cost of new lines and security constraints and Kirchhoff’s Law at each bus bar included. A genetic algorithm (GA) is a search or optimization algorithm based on the mechanics of natural selection and genetics. An applied example is presented. The results from a set of tests carried ...
